The Book of Han (Hanshu, 漢書) was a family affair. Ban Biao, a prominent Han dynasty official, began compiling a supplement to Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji, 史記). He compiled many annals and biographies, but died in 54 AD with the work unfinished. His son, Ban Gu, took over the project, compiling most of the remaining chapters.
