安重誨為樞密使，薦圭直學士。 When An Chonghui was Commissioner of the Bureau of Military Affairs, he recommended Gui as Direct Academician.

重誨素不知書，倚圭以備顧問，始白許圭升殿侍立。 An Chonghui was no scholar himself and relied on Gui for counsel. He was the first to request that Gui be allowed to ascend the hall and attend the emperor standing.

重誨敗死，圭出為貝州刺史。 When An Chonghui fell and was executed, Gui was sent out as prefect of Beizhou.
