畢諴，字存之，黃門監構從孫。 Bi Yan, whose courtesy name was Cunzhi, was a collateral descendant of Bi Gou, Supervisor of the Yellow Gates.

構弟栩，生淩，淩生勻，世失官，為鹽估。 Gou's younger brother Xu had a son Ling, and Ling had a son Yun. For generations the line had fallen from office, and they made their living as salt merchants.
