開運二年冬，從杜重威戰陽城，清以力戰功為步軍之最，加檢校司徒。 In Kaiyun’s second winter he fought with Du Chongwei at Yangcheng; for valor he was judged best among the infantry and made Acting Minister of Works.

是冬，重威軍中渡橋南，虜軍其北以相拒，而虜以精騎並西山出晉軍後，南擊欒城，斷晉餉道。 That winter Chongwei camped south of Zhongdu Bridge, the Khitans north; Khitan elite cavalry swept behind the Jin line along the western hills, struck Luancheng, and cut Jin’s supplies.

清謂重威曰：「晉軍危矣！ Qing told Chongwei, “The Jin army is doomed!

重威許之，遣與宋彥筠俱前，清與虜戰，敗之，奪其橋。 Chongwei agreed and sent him with Song Yanyun; Qing beat the Khitans and took the bridge.

是時，重威已有二誌，猶豫不肯進，彥筠亦退走，清曰：「吾獨死於此矣！」 Chongwei already wavered and would not advance; Yanyun retreated; Qing said, “Then I die here alone!"
