初，杜廷隱之襲深、冀也，聲言分兵就食。 When Du Tingyin seized Shen and Ji he had claimed he was only sending detachments for supplies.

時王鎔將石公立戍深州，欲杜關不納，鎔遽令啟關，命公立移車於外，廷隱遂據其城。 Shi Gongli held Shen for Wang Rong and wanted to keep the gates shut; Rong ordered them opened and told Gongli to move his wagons out, and Tingyin took the city.

數日，廷隱閉城殺鎮兵數千人，遂登陴拒守，王鎔方命公立攻之，即有備矣。 Days later Tingyin massacred thousands of Zhen soldiers, manned the walls, and when Wang Rong sent Gongli to retake the city the defenders were ready.
