後數日，代宗立，復詔攝冢宰，固辭乃免。 Several days later Emperor Daizong ascended; again he was ordered to act as chief minister (zhongzai), and only after firmly declining was he released from the duty.

時年老蹇甚，乞間日入政事堂，帝優之，聽入閤不趨，為禦小延英召對。 At the time he was very old and infirm; he requested to enter the Hall of Administration on alternate days; the emperor was gracious and allowed him to enter the inner gate without hurrying, and for him specially convened audiences in the Small Yanying Hall.

帝還，拜太保，罷政事。 When the emperor returned, Jinqing was appointed grand mentor and dismissed from government affairs.
