延熹八年,長女選入掖庭,桓帝以為貴人,拜武郎中。
In 165 CE his eldest daughter was chosen for the imperial harem; Emperor Huan elevated her to honored consort and named Dou Wu a gentleman attendant at court.
陛下初從藩國,爰登聖祚,天下逸豫,謂當中興。
Your Majesty rose from a princely domain to the throne; the realm rejoiced and looked for a renewal of Han.
梁、孫、寇、鄧雖或誅滅,而常侍黃門續為禍虐,欺罔陛下,競行譎詐,自造制度,妄爵非人,朝政日衰,姦臣日彊。
Liang Ji, Sun Shou, Kou Rong, and Deng Wan may have been destroyed, but the eunuchs still bring ruin: they deceive Your Majesty, vie in deceit, invent their own rules, ennoble unworthy men, and day by day court government rots while wicked ministers grow stronger.
臣惟膺等建忠抗節,志經王室,此誠陛下稷、党、伊、呂之佐,而虛為姦臣賊子之所誣枉,天下寒心,海內失望。
Li Ying and his fellows have shown loyal resolve and devotion to the royal house—they are truly ministers in the mold of Ji, Xie, Yi, and Lü—yet wicked men have falsely accused them; the realm is heartsick and the empire has lost hope.

I beg Your Majesty to attend carefully, judge clearly, and release the innocent in time, so that the murmuring hearts of men and spirits may be stilled.

Yet Your Majesty entrusts power to cronies and raises greedy parasites who rule the provinces abroad and meddle in the vital organs of government at court.
陛下所行,不合天意,不宜稱慶。」

帝不許,有詔原李膺、杜密等,自黃門北寺、若盧、都內諸獄,繫囚罪輕者皆出之。
The emperor refused his resignation and issued an edict pardoning Li Ying, Du Mi, and their associates; minor offenders were freed from the eunuch-run North Prison, Ruolu, and the metropolitan jails.
其冬帝崩,無嗣。
That winter Emperor Huan died without a son to succeed him.
