後唐明宗領行臺，置步直軍，清預其募，漸升為小校。 When Emperor Mingzong of Later Tang held the mobile headquarters, he established the Foot Guard Army; Wang Qing joined the recruitment and gradually rose to junior officer.

明宗即位，自天成至清泰末，歷嚴衛、寧衛指揮使，加檢校右散騎常侍。 After Mingzong took the throne, from the Tiancheng through the Qingtai periods he served in succession as commander of the Yan and Ning Guards and was promoted to honorary Right Regular Attendant-in-Ordinary.
