今詳當時文籍，緣孝章為太宗嫂氏，上仙之時，止輟五日視朝，百官不曾成服，與今不同。 The records show that because Xiaozhang was Taizong's sister-in-law, when she died only five days of court were suspended and officials never donned full mourning—quite unlike the present case.

陳橋之事，人謂普及太宗先知其謀，理勢或然。 Of the Chen Bridge coup, many said both Pu and Taizong knew the plan in advance—a plausible reading of the logic and momentum.

晚年廷美、多遜之獄，大為太宗盛德之累，而普與有力焉。 In his later years the cases of Tingmei and Duoxun became a stain on Taizong's otherwise luminous reign—and Pu bore no small part in them.
