世祖卽位，遷左衞將軍。 When Emperor Wu took the throne, Yuan was moved to general of the left guard.

世祖崩，朝廷慮虜南寇，假淵節，軍主、本官如故。 When Emperor Wu died, the court feared a southern raid from the north and granted Yuan credentials, army commander and former rank unchanged.
