靜字元休，在隋佐親衛，以父得罪煬帝，久不之進。 Jing, courtesy name Yuanxiu, served in the Sui imperial guard, but because his father had fallen from Emperor Yang's favor he languished without advancement.

趙元楷為少卿，靜鄙其聚斂，因會官屬大言曰：「如煬帝奢侈，竭四海自奉，司農須公矣。 His vice minister Zhao Yuankai was notorious for squeezing revenue. At a staff meeting Jing declared, "Under an emperor as extravagant as Yang, draining the realm to feed his appetites, the ministry would need a man like you.
