祖懷遷，本郡牙將。 His grandfather Huaiqian had been a military adjutant in the local command.

懷遷生二子，長曰萬興，次曰萬金，梁、唐之間為延州節度使，卒於鎮。 Huaiqian had two sons, Wanxing and Wanjin. Between the Liang and Tang dynasties they served in turn as military governors of Yanzhou and died in office.
