高祖登極，以惲先朝懿戚，深加禮遇，除授貝州刺史。 When Gaozu took the throne he treated Yun with special courtesy as a kinsman of the former court and appointed him prefect of Bei Prefecture.

時範延光有跋扈之狀，惲懼其見逼，遲留不敢赴任，高祖不悅，復授太子賓客，尋改兵部尚書。 Fan Yanguang was then acting insubordinately. Yun feared being caught in his power, lingered, and dared not take up the post. Gaozu was displeased, made him guest of the heir apparent again, and soon minister of war.
