高祖入汴，守貞懼而來朝，授守貞太保，移鎮河中。 When Gaozu entered Bian, Shouzhen came to court in fear. He was made Grand Guardian and transferred to Hezhong.

居無何，高祖晏駕，杜重威被誅，守貞愈不自安，乃潛畜異計。 Before long Gaozu died and Du Chongwei was executed. Shouzhen grew ever more uneasy and began secretly plotting rebellion.
