高祖數召之，問以時事，凝所對皆稱旨。 Gaozu repeatedly summoned him to discuss current affairs, and Ning's answers always pleased him.

高祖將幸鄴，而襄州安從進反迹已見。 Gaozu was preparing to visit Ye when signs that An Congjin of Xiang Prefecture would rebel had already appeared.

凝曰：「陛下幸鄴，從進必因此時反，則將奈何？」 Ning said, "If Your Majesty visits Ye, Congjin will surely rebel at that moment—what then shall we do?"

高祖曰：「卿將何以待之？」 Gaozu asked, "How would you handle it?"

高祖以為然。 Gaozu agreed.

高祖至鄴，從進果反，鄭王即以宣敕命騎將李建崇、焦繼勳等討之。 When Gaozu reached Ye, Congjin rebelled as expected. The Prince of Zheng immediately used the blank edicts to order cavalry generals Li Jianchong, Jiao Jixun, and others to suppress him.

從進謂高祖方幸鄴，不意晉兵之速也，行至花山，遇建崇等兵，以為神，遂敗走。 Congjin assumed Gaozu was still at Ye and did not expect Jin troops to move so quickly. At Huashan he met Jianchong and the others, took them for a miracle, and fled in defeat.
