歸藹，字文彥，吳郡人也。 Gui Ai, whose style was Wenyan, was a native of Wu Commandery.

藹登進士第，及升朝，遍曆三署。 Ai passed the jinshi examination and, once he entered court service, served in turn in all three secretariat offices.

丙寅，製金紫光祿大夫、行御史中丞、上柱國韓儀責授棣州司馬，侍御史歸藹責授登州司戶，坐百官傲全忠也。） On bingyin an edict demoted Han Yi, grand master of the golden glow and purple ornament, acting censor, and supreme pillar of state, to defender of Dizhou, and remonstrating censor Gui Ai to registrar of Dengzhou, for the offense of officials' arrogance toward Quanzhong.)

偓貶之明年，帝宴文思球場，全忠入，百官坐廡下，全忠怒，貶儀棣州司馬，侍御史歸藹登州司戶參軍。 In the year after Wo's demotion the emperor gave a feast at the Wensi ball ground. When Quanzhong entered, the officials were all seated beneath the corridor, and Quanzhong grew angry. He demoted Yi to militia vice-prefect of Di Prefecture and the attendant censor Gui Ai to registrar of Dengzhou.
