In the third month, as Emperor Shizong prepared the northern campaign, Lingkun was ordered to lead Dragon Swift, Tiger Swift, and Valiant Martial troops to Daming ahead of the main force. He then served as deputy to Wang Yan as overall commander of the Yijin Pass route, and soon became overall commander of Bazhou, leading his troops to garrison the post.
