十年，交州牙將皎公羨殺楊廷藝自立，廷藝故將吳權攻交州，公羨來乞師。 In the tenth year Jiao Gongxian, a military adjutant of Jiaozhou, killed Yang Tingyi and declared himself ruler. Tingyi’s former general Wu Quan attacked Jiaozhou, and Gongxian came to beg for troops.

龑以兵駐海門，權已殺公羨，逆戰海口，植鐵橛海中，權兵乘潮而進，洪操逐之，潮退舟還，轢橛者皆覆，洪操戰死，龑收余眾而還。 Yan stationed his army at Haimen. Quan had already killed Gongxian and met them in battle at Haikou, planting iron stakes in the sea. Quan’s troops advanced with the tide; Hongcao pursued. When the tide ebbed the boats fell back, and every vessel that struck the stakes capsized. Hongcao was killed in battle; Yan gathered the survivors and withdrew.
