康熙十七年，詔舉博學鴻儒，尚書魏象樞、副都御史金鋐以斌薦，試一等，授翰林院侍講，與修明史。 In 1678 the court called for eminent scholars; Wei Xiangshu and Jin E recommended Bin, who ranked first in the special examination and became a Hanlin lecturer working on the Ming History.
