郕王監國,命群臣議戰守。
The Prince of Cheng took charge of the realm and ordered the ministers to debate whether to fight or to hold the capital.
王是其言,守議乃定。
The prince agreed, and the decision to defend the capital was settled.
郕王方攝朝,廷臣請族誅王振。
As the Prince of Cheng held court, ministers called for the extermination of Wang Zhen's entire clan.
王懼欲起,謙排眾直前掖王止,且啟王宣諭曰:「順等罪當死,勿論。」
The prince, frightened, tried to rise; Qian pushed through the throng, seized the prince's arm, and urged him to announce: "Shun and his like deserve death—let it pass."

In the ninth month the Jing Emperor was enthroned. Qian came before him, weeping as he spoke: "The enemy has triumphed and will hold the emperor hostage; they will surely despise China and drive south in force.

The emperor accepted his counsel wholeheartedly.
