五十四年，分校會試，嚴絕請託，銜之者反嗾言官劾其把持闈事，聖祖原之，終以浮議罷歸。 In the fifty-fourth year he served as an associate examiner for the metropolitan examination and refused patronage requests outright; his enemies stirred up censors to accuse him of manipulating the examination hall. Though the Kangxi Emperor excused him, he was eventually forced home by unsubstantiated gossip.
