太祖即位，拜彥卿感化軍節度使。 At Taizu’s accession Yanqing was made military governor of the Ganhua Army.

歲餘，召為左金吾衞大將軍，充金吾街仗使。 After a year he recalled Yanqing as Grand General of the Left Golden Crow Guard and director of the Jinwu street guard.

彥卿晨朝至天津橋，民梁現不避道，前驅捽現投橋上石欄以死。 One morning on his way to court Yanqing reached Tianjin Bridge. A commoner named Liang Xian failed to clear the road; the vanguard seized him and smashed him against the bridge railing to his death.

彥卿見太祖自首，太祖惜之，詔彥卿以錢償現家以贖罪。 Yanqing went to Taizu and confessed. Taizu pitied him and ordered Yanqing to pay Liang Xian’s family to redeem the offense.

御史司憲崔沂劾奏彥卿，請論如法，太祖不得已，責授彥卿左衞中郎將。 Censor-in-Chief Cui Yi impeached Yanqing and demanded legal punishment. Taizu had no choice and demoted him to Left Guard Captain.

太祖遇弒，彥卿出太祖畫像事之如生，嘗對客語先朝，必涕泗交下。 After Taizu was murdered, Yanqing hung his portrait and tended it as though he still lived; when he spoke of the old reign before guests, tears always streamed down.

末帝即位，徙鎮威勝。 When the Last Emperor succeeded, Yanqing was transferred to Weisheng command.

彥卿明敏善事人，而怙寵作威，好誅殺，多猜忌。 Clever and skilled at winning favor, Yanqing still bullied others on the strength of his patronage, loved killing, and lived in suspicion.
