二年三月，幽州李存審疾篤，求入覲，議擇帥代之。 In the third month of the second year Li Cunshen of Youzhou fell gravely ill and asked to come to court. The court debated who should replace him.

方內宴，莊宗曰：「吾披榛故人，零落殆盡，所殘者存審耳。 At a private banquet Zhuangzong said, "Of the old companions who cleared the thorns with me, nearly all are gone. Only Cunshen remains.
