十月，與朔方節度使司徒郭子儀、河東節度使太尉李光弼等九節度同圍安慶緒於相州。 In the tenth month he joined Shuofang governor Guo Ziyi, Hedong governor Li Guangbi, and eight other commanders in besieging An Qingxu at Xiangzhou.

五日，至新鄭縣，聞郭子儀已整眾屯谷水，李光弼還太原，炅憂懼，仰藥而卒。 On the fifth he reached Xinzheng and learned that Guo Ziyi had regrouped at Gushui while Li Guangbi had gone back to Taiyuan. In fear and despair Jiong took poison and died.

長卿嘗任租庸使，為吳仲孺所困，崔眾供軍吝財，為光弼所殺，故言及之，佶大懼，不敢固護，財帛將轉輸入京師者，悉為少遊奪之。 Liu Changqing had once served as transport commissioner and was trapped by Wu Zhongru; Cui Zhong had been stingy in supplying the army and was killed by Li Guangbi—hence the threat. Ji was terrified and did not dare resist. All the funds and goods destined for the capital were seized by Shaoyou.

從李光弼攻洛陽，史朝義眾十萬陣北邙山，旗鎧照日，諸疑，未敢擊。 Serving under Li Guangbi at Luoyang, he faced Shi Chaoyi's army of one hundred thousand drawn up on Mount Beimang, their banners and armor blazing in the sun. The commanders hesitated and dared not attack.

光弼曰：「吾用兵三十年，未見以少擊眾，雄捷如馬將軍者！」 Guangbi said, "In thirty years of command I have never seen anyone strike so boldly and swiftly against such odds as General Ma!"

其為人沈毅有謀，尤忠謹，李光弼引為裨校。 Deep, resolute, and shrewd, he was above all loyal and careful; Li Guangbi took him on as a staff officer.

光弼壁河陽拒之，使抱玉守南城。 Guangbi entrenched at Heyang to block him and left Baoyu to hold the southern city.

賊乃舍去，從光弼戰，大敗，因不能西。 The rebels then withdrew; following Guangbi into battle they were routed and could advance no farther west.
