沛公、項羽方攻陳留，聞梁死，士卒恐，乃與將軍呂臣引兵而東，徙懷王自盱台都彭城。 Pei Gong and Xiang Yu were attacking Chenliu when they heard of Liang's death. The soldiers were terrified, so they joined with General Lü Chen and led troops east, moving King Huai from Xutai to Pengcheng as the capital.

呂臣軍彭城東，項羽軍彭城西，沛公軍碭。 Lü Chen's army was stationed east of Pengcheng, Xiang Yu's army west of Pengcheng, and Pei Gong's army at Dang.

後九月，懷王并呂臣、項羽軍自將之。 In the ninth month afterward, King Huai combined Lü Chen and Xiang Yu's armies and personally took command.

以羽為魯公，封長安侯，呂臣為司徒，其父呂青為令尹。 He appointed Yu as Duke of Lu and enfeoffed him as Marquis of Chang'an. Lü Chen became Minister of Works, and his father Lü Qing became Prime Minister.

陳王故涓人將軍呂臣為倉頭軍，起新陽，攻陳下之，殺莊賈，復以陳為楚。 General Lü Chen, a former palace attendant of the King of Chen, raised an army of 'Granary Heads.' He launched his campaign from Xinyang, attacked and retook the city of Chen, killed Zhuang Jia, and restored Chen to the banner of Chu.

呂將軍走，收兵復聚。 General Lü fled but rallied his troops and reformed his forces.

章邯之滅陳勝，破呂臣軍，布乃引兵北擊秦左右校，破之清波，引兵而東。 After Zhang Han destroyed Chen Sheng and routed the army of Lü Chen, Bu led his forces northward to attack the Qin left and right battalions. He defeated them at Qingbo, then marched his army eastward.
