太祖西攻岐，王師範謀襲汴，遣健卒苗公立持書至汴，陰伺虛實。 While the Founder marched west on Qi, Wang Shifan plotted a strike on Bian and sent the soldier Miao Gongli with a letter to probe the city in secret.

迪召公立問東事，公立色動，乃屏人密詰之，具得其事。 Di called Gongli in and asked about the east. Gongli’s face changed. Di sent the room empty and pressed him until the plot lay bare.
