嘗夜有強盜數十人，持杖鼓噪，逾垣而入，家人悉奔竄，唯有姑獨在室。 One night several dozen robbers, armed with clubs and making a great racket, climbed over the wall; the whole household fled in terror, leaving only her mother-in-law alone in the room.

盧冒白刃往至姑側，為賊捶擊之，幾至於死。 Lu braved the robbers' blades to reach her mother-in-law's side; they beat her nearly to death.

其姑每嘆云：「古人稱歲寒然後知松柏之後雕也，吾今乃知盧新婦之心矣！」 Her mother-in-law often sighed, "The ancients said that only in bitter cold does one know the pine and cypress are last to wither—I now know the heart of my daughter-in-law Lu!"
