銘，字日新，泰和人。 Ming, whose style was Rixin, came from Taihe.

銘招徠拊循，漸次復業。 Ming drew people back, soothed them, and gradually restored livelihoods.

銘笞而遣之。 Ming had them flogged and sent them on their way.

曰：「卒，王師，民亦王民也。 Ming answered, "Soldiers are the King's army, but civilians are the King's people too.

銘雖愚，何至詈將軍？ I may be foolish, but I would never insult a general.

銘為治廉靜平恕，暇輒進諸生講文藝，或單騎行田間，課耕獲。 Ming governed with integrity, calm, and mercy. In his spare time he lectured students on the classics, or rode alone through the fields to inspect the harvest.
