裴度為御史中丞，奏以右司郎中知雜事。 When Pei Du served as censor-in-chief, he had Cong, as right bureau director, manage the bureau's miscellaneous affairs.

度已相，代為中丞。 After Du became chief minister, Cong succeeded him as censor-in-chief.

宰相李宗閔以從裴度、李德裕所善，內不喜。 Chief Minister Li Zongmin disliked Cong inwardly because he was close to Pei Du and Li Deyu.
