錢氏兼有兩浙幾百年，其人比諸國號為怯弱，而俗喜淫侈，偷生工巧，自镠世常重斂其民以事奢僭，下至雞魚卵鷇，必家至而日取。 The Qian had ruled both Zhe circuits for nearly a hundred years. Neighboring states called their people timid and soft, yet the land loved luxury and excess, clinging to ease and clever in craft. From Qian Liu's day they taxed the people relentlessly to feed royal extravagance—down to chickens, fish, eggs, and nestlings, taken house by house, day by day.
