九年，石達開犯湖南，秉章檄淳熙募勇千六百人防省城，時出剿賊。 In the ninth year, when Shi Dakai invaded Hunan, Bingzhang ordered Chunxi to raise sixteen hundred militiamen to defend the provincial capital and sent him out repeatedly to fight the rebels.

達開由寶慶竄踞嶺東，分黨犯江華，淳熙破之於掛勾嶺，遂夜襲嶺東賊營，躡至江、藍，殲殪甚眾。 Dakai broke out from Baoqing and seized the eastern passes, then sent detachments against Jianghua; Chunxi routed them at Guagou Ridge, launched a night attack on the rebel camp in the eastern passes, pursued them into Jiang and Lan counties, and slaughtered a great many.

十年，達開黨眾四出，淳熙轉戰於永、道、綏、靖諸州，復宜章、桂陽。 In the tenth year Dakai's forces fanned out in every direction; Chunxi fought through Yong, Dao, Sui, and Jing and recovered Yizhang and Guiyang.
