武宗崩，仁宗立，延祐三年春，議建東宮，時丞相鐵木叠而欲固位取寵，乃議立英宗為皇太子，又與太后幸臣識烈門譖帝於兩宮，浸潤久之，其計遂行。 Wuzong died; Renzong ascended the throne; spring of the third year of Yanyou, when the Eastern Palace was under deliberation, Chancellor Tiemudie'er, wishing to secure his position and win favor, proposed installing Shidebala as crown prince; together with the empress dowager's favorite minister Shiliemen he slandered him before the two palaces; after long insinuation, the scheme succeeded.

延祐七年，仁宗崩，英宗嗣立。 Seventh year of Yanyou, Renzong died; Shidebala succeeded to the throne.

至治三年八月癸亥，御史大夫鐵失等弒英宗，晉王也孫鐵木兒自立為皇帝，改元泰定。 Third year of Zhizhi, eighth month, on guihai day, Censor-in-Chief Tieshi and others assassinated Shidebala; Prince of Jin Yesun Temür installed himself as emperor and changed the reign title to Taiding.

答己妃子（弘吉列氏。大德十一年尊為皇太后，延祐二年上尊號曰儀天興聖慈仁（明）昭懿壽元（合）全德泰寧福慶皇太后，七年又尊曰太皇太后，加徽文崇祐尊號。至治三年崩，諡曰昭獻元聖皇后。后性聰慧，然不事檢飭，及正位東朝，淫恣益甚，內則黑驢母亦列失八用事，外則幸臣失列門、紐鄰等及時宰迭木帖兒怙寵作非，濁亂朝政。及英宗立，羣倖誅，而後勢燄少熄焉。） Consort Daji (Kongirat; honored as Empress Dowager in 1307; in 1315 given the lengthy honorific Empress Dowager Yitian Xingsheng Ciren Zhaoyi Shouyuan Quande Taining Fuqing; raised to Grand Empress Dowager in 1320 with the added epithet Weiwen Chongyou; died in 1322 and was posthumously titled Empress Zhaoxian Yuansheng). She was clever but unrestrained; once established in the Eastern Palace her excesses deepened. Within the palace the "Black Donkey Mother" Yilieshiba dominated affairs; outside, favorites such as Shiliemen and Niulin, together with chief minister Tiemudier, abused imperial favor and corrupted government. After Gegeen acceded, this whole clique was executed and her influence waned.

延祐七年，英宗即位，十二月，上尊號太皇太后，冊文云：「王政之先，無以加孝，人倫之本，莫大尊親。 In 1320 Yingzong took the throne. In the twelfth month he raised the honorific title Grand Empress Dowager. The investiture text read: "Before royal government, nothing surpasses filial piety; in the root of human relations, nothing is greater than honoring kin.

太后見明宗少時有英氣，而英宗稍柔懦，諸群小以立明宗必不利於己，遂擁立英宗。 The Empress Dowager saw that in youth Mingzong had heroic spirit, while Yingzong was somewhat soft and timid. Various petty men thought that establishing Mingzong would certainly be unfavorable to themselves and therefore supported Yingzong.

及既即位，太后來賀，英宗即毅然見於色，后退而悔曰：「我不擬養此兒耶！」 When he had taken the throne, the Empress Dowager came to congratulate. Yingzong immediately showed it firmly in his expression. The empress withdrew and regretted, saying, "Did I not intend to raise this child!"

及英宗立，群幸伏誅，而后勢焰頓息焉。 When Yingzong was established, the group of favorites were executed, and thereafter her power suddenly ceased.

時澄已有去志，會修《英宗實錄》，命總其事。 By then Wu Cheng already intended to resign. It happened that the Veritable Records of Emperor Yingzong were being compiled, and he was ordered to oversee the project.

英宗即位，超遷翰林學士，進階太中大夫。 When Emperor Yingzong took the throne, Wu Cheng was exceptionally promoted to Hanlin Academician and advanced to the rank of Grand Master for Splendid Happiness.

帝在上都，使左丞速速，詔澄為序，澄曰：「主上寫經，為民祈福，甚盛舉也。 The Emperor was at Shangdu and sent Left Assistant Minister Susu to order Wu Cheng to write the preface. Cheng said, "When the sovereign copies sutras to pray for the people's blessings, it is a most splendid undertaking.

及英宗即位，在諒暗中，鐵木迭兒遂復出據相位，乃執楊朵兒隻及中書平章政事蕭拜住，同日戮於市。 When Emperor Yingzong came to the throne, Temüder reappeared during the mourning period and reclaimed the chief ministership. He then had Yang Duoerzhi and Assistant Administrator Xiao Baizhu arrested and executed in the market on the same day.

仁宗崩，英宗猶在東宮，鐵木迭兒復相，乃宣太后旨，召蕭拜住、朵兒隻至徽政院，與徽政使失里門、御史大夫禿忒哈雜問之，責以前違太后旨之罪。 When Emperor Renzong died, Emperor Yingzong was still in the Eastern Palace. Temüder again became chief minister. Proclaiming the empress dowager's order, he summoned Xiao Baizhu and Duoerzhi to the Office of Imperial Provisions and jointly interrogated them with Commissioner Shilimen and Censor-in-Chief Tutuqa, charging them with having earlier defied the empress dowager's will.

英宗即位，詔書遂加以誣罔大臣之罪。 When Emperor Yingzong came to the throne, the edict further added the charge of falsely slandering high ministers.

英宗即位之十有九日，右丞相鐵木迭兒怨拜住在省中牽制其所為，又發其奸贓、專制等事，遂請依皇太后旨，並前御史中丞楊朵兒只皆殺之。 On the nineteenth day of Emperor Yingzong's reign, Right Chief Minister Temüder, resenting Baizhu's checks on his conduct in the Secretariat and angered by exposures of his bribery and despotism, requested by the empress dowager's order that Baizhu and the former Censor-in-Chief Yang Duoerzhi be executed.

治書侍御史鎖南，鐵木迭兒之子也，罷為翰林侍講學士，鐵失奏復其職，英宗不允。 Suonan, an associate censor of the Secretariat, was Temuder's son. After his dismissal to a Hanlin lecturing post, Tie Shi asked that he be reinstated, but Emperor Yingzong refused.

鐵失者，當英宗即位之初，以翰林學士承旨、宣徽院使，為太醫院使。 At the start of Emperor Yingzong's reign Tie Shi was Hanlin grand secretary and Huizheng Court commissioner, and was appointed superintendent of the Imperial Medical Academy.

英宗嘗御鹿頂殿，謂鐵失曰：「徽政雖隸太皇太后，朕視之與諸司同，凡簿書宜悉令御史檢覈。」 Emperor Yingzong once held court at Deer Peak Hall and told Tie Shi, "Though Huizheng falls under the empress dowager, I treat it like any other office. All its accounts should be fully audited by the censors."

冬十月，英宗親祀太廟，以中書左丞相拜住為亞獻官，鐵失為終獻官。 In the tenth month of winter Emperor Yingzong sacrificed in person at the Imperial Ancestral Temple, with central left chancellor Bayiju as secondary offering officer and Tie Shi as final offering officer.

英宗嘗謂臺臣曰：「朕深居九重，臣下奸貪，民生疾苦，豈能周知，故用卿等為耳目。 Emperor Yingzong once told the censorate, "I live deep within the palace. How can I know every case of official corruption or every hardship among the people? That is why I rely on you as my eyes and ears.

既而御史臺請降旨開言路，英宗曰：「言路何嘗不開，但卿等選人未當爾。 The Censorate then asked for an edict opening the way for frank counsel. The emperor replied, "The way for counsel has never been closed. The problem is the men you choose.

時鐵木迭兒既死，罪惡日彰，英宗委任拜住為右丞相，振立紀綱，修舉廢墜，以進賢退不肖為急務。 By then Temuder was dead and his crimes were coming to light. Emperor Yingzong put Bayiju in charge as right chancellor to restore order, revive neglected institutions, and make promoting the worthy and removing the unfit his top priority.

秋八月癸亥，英宗自上都南還，駐蹕南坡。 In the eighth month of autumn, on the guihai day, Emperor Yingzong returned south from Shangdu and halted at Nanpo.

是夕，鐵失與知樞密院事也先鐵木兒、大司農失禿兒、前中書平章政事赤斤鐵木兒、前雲南行省平章政事完者、前治書侍御史鎖南、鐵失之弟宣徽使鎖南、典瑞院使脫火赤、樞密副使阿散、僉書樞密院事章台、衞士禿滿，及諸王按梯不花、孛羅、月魯鐵木兒、曲律不花、兀魯思不花等，以鐵失所領阿速衞兵為外應，殺右丞相拜住，而鐵失直犯禁幄，手弒英宗于臥所。 That night Tie Shi, together with privy council administrator Yesen Timur, Minister of Revenue Shitu'er, former central pingzhang Chijin Timur, former Yunnan pingzhang Wanzhe, former associate censor Suonan, Tie Shi's younger brother Huizheng commissioner Suonan, Ceremonial Regalia Court commissioner Tuohuochi, privy council vice director Asan, privy council secretary Zhangtai, guard Tumian, and the princes Atibuhua, Boluo, Yuelu Timur, Qulvuhua, and Ulusibuhua, used Tie Shi's Asud guards as accomplices, killed right chancellor Bayiju, then burst into the forbidden tent and personally assassinated Emperor Yingzong in his sleeping quarters.
