朝鮮初通商，馥與美提督薛裴爾議草商約保衛之，首稱朝鮮為中國屬邦，固以防侵奪也，而樞府削之。 When Korea first opened to trade, Zhou Fu drafted a commercial treaty with American Commodore Shufeldt that explicitly called Korea a Chinese dependency—a safeguard against foreign seizure—but the Grand Council struck that clause.
