When Taizu became commander-in-chief and first opened headquarters, Li Zhouyi surrendered Yan Prefecture and was made Left Chief of Staff. A worthy Right Chief of Staff was hard to find; when Daozhao came forward, he received the post.

Once the yajun were dead, Wei troops abroad mutinied. Zuo Xingqian seized Liting and Shi Renyu Gaotang in revolt; Daozhao followed Taizu and crushed them all.
