龑初欲僭號，憚王定保不從，遣定保使荊南，及還，懼其非己，使倪曙勞之，告以建國。 When Yan first wished to declare himself emperor he feared Wang Dingbao would not consent, and sent Dingbao as envoy to Jingnan. When Dingbao returned, Yan feared he would not approve and had Ni Shu welcome him and inform him that the state had been founded.

定保曰：「建國當有制度，吾入南門，清海軍額猶在，四方其不取笑乎！」 Dingbao said, "Founding a state requires proper institutions. I entered the south gate and the Qinghai Army placard is still hanging there — will not the four quarters laugh at us!"

龑笑曰：「吾備定保久矣，而不思此，宜其譏也。」 Yan laughed and said, "I have kept Dingbao close for a long time, yet he never thought of this — no wonder he mocks us."
