Wang Jianli
王建立，遼州榆社人也。
Wang Jianli came from Yushe in Liaozhou.
唐明宗為代州刺史，以建立為虞候將。
When Mingzong of Tang was prefect of Daizhou, he made Jianli a garrison commandant.
莊宗嘗遣女奴之代州祭祭墓，女奴侵擾代人，建立捕而笞之。
Zhuangzong once sent palace women to Daizhou to sacrifice at the tomb. They harassed the people of Dai, and Jianli seized and flogged them.
明宗自魏反，犯京師，曹皇后、王淑妃皆在常山，建立殺常山監軍并其守兵，明宗家屬因得無患，由是明宗益愛之。
When Mingzong rebelled from Wei and marched on the capital, Empress Cao and Consort Wang Shufei were at Changshan. Jianli killed the Changshan army supervisor and his garrison, so Mingzong’s family was unharmed, and Mingzong loved him all the more.

When Mingzong took the throne, Jianli was made deputy military governor of Chengde, then military governor, Grand General-in-Chief by brevet, and co–Grand Councillor.

Jianli and An Chonghui had long been at odds. Wang Du of Dingzhou wavered and wrote Jianli again and again, pledging brotherhood. Chonghui learned of it and spoke against him.
明宗不欲傷建立，亟召還京師。
Mingzong did not wish to harm Jianli and urgently summoned him to the capital.
建立入見，亦多言重誨過失。
Jianli entered audience and spoke much of Chonghui’s faults.
然卒以建立為右僕射、同中書門下平章事、判三司事。
Yet in the end Jianli was made Right Vice Director, co–Grand Councillor, and overseer of the Three Bureaus.
久之，建立稱疾，明宗笑曰：「人固有詐疾而得疾者。」
Long after, Jianli claimed illness. Mingzong laughed: “Men feign illness and thereby fall ill.”
建立怏怏不得志，遂求解職，乃以太子少保致仕。
Jianli was resentful and sought release. He was made Junior Mentor of the Heir and retired.
