王進，幽州良鄉人。 Wang Jin was a native of Liangxiang in You Prefecture.

符彥超為河朔郡守，以賂誘置之左右。 When Fu Yanchao was a prefect in Hebei, he bribed Wang Jin and brought him into his retinue.

長興初，彥超鎮安州，屬部曲王希全構亂軍州，令進賫變狀聞於朝廷，明宗賞其捷足，詔隸於軍中。 Early in the Changxing period Yanchao took command of An Prefecture. When his subordinate Wang Xiquan stirred rebellion in the army and prefecture, he had Jin carry an emergency report to court. Mingzong praised his swift feet and ordered him enrolled in the army.

洎契丹內寇，戰於膠口，進獨追擒六十七人，時漢祖總侍衛親軍，知其驍果，擢為馬前親校。 When the Khitans invaded and battle was joined at Jiaokou, Jin alone pursued and captured sixty-seven men. The founder of Later Han then commanded the imperial guard; recognizing Jin's valor, he promoted him to personal attendant before his horse.

漢祖鎮河東，或邊上警急，令進賫封章達於闕下，自並至汴，不六七日復焉，由是恩撫頗厚。 When the Han founder held Hedong and border emergencies arose, he had Jin carry sealed memorials to the capital. From Bing to Bian and back took no more than six or seven days, and from this he won substantial favor.

國初，與虎捷都指揮使何徵戍晉州，會劉崇與契丹入寇，攻圍州城月餘，是時本州無帥，知州王萬敢不協物情，彥超與何徵協力固拒，累挫敵鋒。 Early in the dynasty he and He Zheng, commander of the Hujie army, garrisoned Jin Prefecture. When Liu Chong and the Khitans invaded they besieged the city for more than a month. The prefecture then had no military governor, and the prefect Wang Wang'an was unpopular. Yanchao and He Zheng held the city together in a stout defense and repeatedly drove back the enemy.
