王饒，字受益，慶州華池人也。 Wang Rao, whose style was Shouyi, was a native of Huachi in Qingzhou.

父柔，以饒貴，累贈太尉。 His father Rou, owing to Rao's eminence, was repeatedly posthumously awarded the title of Grand Preceptor.

饒沈毅有才幹，始事晉高祖。 Rao was steady, resolute, and capable. He first entered the service of Jin Gaozu.

時安從進叛於襄陽，晉祖命高行周率兵討之，以饒為行營步軍都指揮使，賊平，授深州刺史。 When An Congjin rebelled at Xiangyang, the Jin founder ordered Gao Xingzhou to suppress him and made Rao overall commander of the campaign infantry. After the rebels were defeated, Rao was appointed prefect of Shenzhou.

晉末，契丹據中原，漢祖建義於晉陽，尋克復諸夏，惟常山郡為契丹所據，時饒在其郡，乃與李筠、白再榮之儔承間竊發，盡逐其黨。 Late in the Later Jin, the Khitans occupied the Central Plains. The Later Han founder raised his standard at Jinyang and soon recovered the heartland, but Changshan alone remained in Khitan hands. Rao, then in the commandery, joined Li Yun, Bai Zairong, and others in a sudden uprising that drove out the Khitan garrison.

世宗嗣位，加兼侍中，改彰德軍節度使。 When Shizong succeeded, Rao was further made concurrent Palace Attendant and transferred to military governor of the Zhangde circuit.

追封巢國公。 He was posthumously enfeoffed as Duke of Chao.

饒性寬厚，體貌詳雅，所蒞藩鎮，民皆便之。 Rao was generous by nature and dignified in bearing. In every circuit he governed the people found his rule a blessing.
