晚年，匿跡惟恐不深，先後巡撫王恕、彭禮咸禮敬之，欲留幕下，並以母老辭。 In his later years he hid his tracks, fearing they were not deep enough. The surveillance commissioners Wang Shu and Peng Li in succession treated him with ritual respect and wished to keep him on their staffs, but he declined both on the grounds that his mother was old.
