居數月，爲王廷湊所殺，遂以兵叛。 Within a few months Hongzheng was murdered by Wang Tingcou, who then rose in armed rebellion.

時幽州硃克融援助廷湊，布不能制，因自引決，軍情囂然。 Zhu Kerong of Youzhou was then aiding Tingcou; Bu could not master the army, took his own life, and the troops fell into uproar.

時克融、廷湊並據兵爲亂，憲誠喜得旄節，雖外順朝旨，而中與硃、王爲輔車之勢，長慶二年正月也。 Kerong and Tingcou were both in arms against the court; Xiancheng was delighted to receive the commander's baton and banner. Outwardly he followed the court's orders, yet inwardly he and Zhu and Wang lent each other the support of linked chariots — all this in the first month of the second year of Changqing.

時幽州硃克融援助廷湊，布不能制，因自引決，軍情囂然。 Zhu Kerong of Youzhou was then supporting Tingcou. Bu could not bring the situation under control and took his own life, leaving the army in turmoil.

時克融、廷湊並據兵為亂，憲誠喜得旄節，雖外順朝旨，而中與硃、王為輔車之勢，長慶二年正月也。 Kerong and Tingcou were both in rebellion with their armies. Xiancheng was pleased to receive the commissioner's symbols of authority. Though he outwardly obeyed the court, inwardly he and Zhu and Wang were bound together like linked chariots. This was in the first month of Changqing 2 (822).

四代祖廷湊，事鎮帥王承宗為牙將。 His fourth-generation ancestor Tingcou served the military governor of Zhen, Wang Chengzong, as a guard officer.

既而鎮人殺宏正，推廷湊為留後，朝廷不能制，因以旄鉞授之。 Soon afterward the garrison of Zhen killed Hongzheng and installed Tingcou as acting governor. The court could not restrain them and therefore granted him the insignia of command.

廷湊卒，子元逵尚文宗女壽安公主。 When Tingcou died, his son Yuankui married Princess Shou'an, a daughter of Emperor Wenzong.
