吳當字伯尚，澄之孫也。 Wu Dang, whose courtesy name was Boshang, was the grandson of Wu Cheng.

當幼承祖訓，以穎悟篤實稱。 From childhood he received his grandfather's instruction and was known for keen intelligence and solid integrity.

長精通經史百家言，侍其祖至京，補國子生。 When grown he mastered the Classics, histories, and the teachings of the hundred schools. Accompanying his grandfather to the capital, he was enrolled as a student at the Imperial University.

久之，澄既捐館，四方學子從澄遊者，悉就當卒業焉。 After Wu Cheng died, scholars from all directions who had studied under him came to Dang to complete their training.
