下邳人吳樹為宛令，之官辭冀，冀賓客布在縣界，以情托樹。 Wu Shu of Xiapi, taking office as magistrate of Wan, paid leave to Liang Ji, whose clients throughout the county asked favors of him.

樹對曰：『小人奸蠹，比屋可誅，明將軍以椒房之重，處上將之位，宜崇賢善，以補朝闕，宛為大都，土之淵藪，自侍坐以來，未聞稱一長者，而多托非人，誠非敢聞！』 Shu replied, "Petty villains deserve execution house by house. As empress kin and supreme commander you should honor the worthy to repair the court. Wan is a great city of talent; since I took office I have not heard one worthy man praised, yet many improper requests are made—I dare not hear it!"

樹到縣，遂誅殺冀客為人害者數十人，由是深怨之。 At his post Wu Shu executed dozens of Liang Ji's harmful clients, earning Ji's deep hatred.

樹後為荊州刺史，臨去辭冀，冀為設酒，因鴆之，樹出，死車上。 Later, as inspector of Jing province, Wu Shu took leave of Liang Ji, who poisoned his wine; Shu died in his carriage after departing.
