武宗即位，由僉樞密院事拜樞密副使。 When Wuzong came to the throne, Yuangui rose from signing military affairs to vice director of the Bureau of Military Affairs.

帝在軍中，即聞元珪名，至是，特加平章政事，賜白金二百五十兩、只孫衣四襲。 The Emperor had known Yuangui's reputation since his days in the field army; now he was specially promoted to grand councillor and granted two hundred fifty taels of silver and four sets of zhisun robes.

武宗即位，議躬祀禮，升據經引古，參酌時宜以對，帝嘉納之。 When Wuzong came to the throne, the court debated the rites of personal sacrifice. Sheng answered by citing the classics and ancient precedent while adapting them to present needs, and the Emperor approved.
