從蕭啟江援江西，克萬載、袁州。 He followed Xiao Qijiang to relieve Jiangxi and helped capture Wanzai and Yuanzhou.

援賊大至，啟江議暫退，興恕不可，曰：「兵在精不在多，原為前鋒。」 Rebel reinforcements arrived in force. Qijiang proposed pulling back, but Xingyu refused, saying, "Victory depends on quality, not numbers. I was sent to lead the van."
