楊國忠專政，殺嶺南流人，以中使傳口敕行刑，畏議者嫉其酷，乃以審為嶺南監決處置等使，活者甚眾。 When Yang Guozhong dominated the government and began killing exiles in Lingnan by sending palace eunuchs with oral edicts to carry out executions, he feared public outrage at the brutality and appointed Shen commissioner for supervising executions in Lingnan, thereby saving a great many lives.

帝方在華清宮，聞之震怒，收慎矜尚書省，詔刑部尚書蕭炅、大理卿李道邃、殿中侍御史盧鉉、楊國忠雜訊。 The emperor was then at Huaqing Palace. Enraged, he had Shenjin arrested at the Ministry of Revenue and ordered Minister of Justice Xiao Jiong, chief judge Li Daosui, palace censor Lu Xuan, and Yang Guozhong to conduct a joint interrogation.
