四年，獨山土匪結粵匪內犯，超率兵練迎擊，分軍出賊後，攻其不備，擒賊首楊元保，复深入廣西南丹州境，擊諸匪平之，加同知銜，賜花翎。 In the fourth year Dushan bandits allied with Cantonese rebels and invaded inland. Chao led troops and militia to meet them, sent a detachment around the enemy's rear, and caught them off guard, capturing the bandit chief Yang Yuanbao. He then pushed deep into Nandan in Guangxi, routed the bandit bands, and was promoted to sub-prefect with the peacock feather.
