芾先以失機自劾，暫行革職留軍，至是復自請治罪，遂命以皖南軍事畀兩江總督曾國籓，召芾還京，請回籍補持服，允之。 Fei had earlier impeached himself for missing his chance and was temporarily dismissed but kept with the army. Now he again asked to be punished, and the court entrusted southern Anhui military affairs to Governor-General Zeng Guofan, recalled Fei to the capital, and granted his request to return home to complete mourning.
