張瓘，同州車渡村人，故太原監軍使承業之猶子也。 Zhang Guan came from Chedu Village in Tongzhou and was a nephew of the former Taiyuan military overseer Zhang Chengye.

承業，《唐書》有傳。 Chengye has a biography in the Tang History.

唐天祐中，承業佐唐武皇、莊宗有功，甚見委遇，瓘聞之，與昆仲五人，自故裏奔於太原，莊宗皆任用之。 During Tang Tianyou Chengye served the Martial Emperor and Zhuangzong with distinction and won great trust. When Guan heard of his success, he and his brothers—five in all—left their village for Taiyuan, and Zhuangzong gave them all posts.

承業治家嚴毅，小過無所容恕，一侄為磁州副使，以其殺河西賣羊客，承業立捕斬之。 Chengye ran his household with stern discipline and tolerated no small fault. One nephew served as deputy commissioner of Cizhou; when he killed a sheep merchant from Hexi, Chengye had him seized and executed at once.
