杲少好學，工書畫，舅張融有高名，杲風韻舉動，頗類於融，時稱之曰：「無對日下，惟舅與甥。」 Gao loved learning from youth and was skilled at calligraphy and painting. His maternal uncle Zhang Rong had a great reputation, and Gao's style, bearing, and movements much resembled Rong, so people of the time said, "There are no equals under the sun, only uncle and nephew."
