The King of Yan also sent his minister Zhang Sheng to the Xiongnu to report that Chen Xi's army had been defeated.
張勝至胡,故燕王臧茶子衍出亡在胡,見張勝曰:「公所以重於燕者,以習胡事也。
When Zhang Sheng reached the Xiongnu lands, Yan, the son of the former King of Yan Zang Tu, who had fled and was living among the Xiongnu, met him and said: 'The reason you are valued in Yan is that you understand the affairs of the northern peoples.
張勝以為然,豨私令匈奴助豨等擊燕。
Zhang Sheng found this reasoning persuasive. Chen Xi secretly ordered the Xiongnu to assist his forces in raiding Yan.
燕王綰疑張勝與胡反,上書請族張勝。
The King of Yan suspected Zhang Sheng of conspiring with the Xiongnu to rebel and submitted a memorial requesting that Zhang Sheng's entire clan be executed.
